This issue is not localized to North Fair Oaks. Trees are one of the major casualties of 'development' in Menlo Park generally. Notice is commonly sent from the City to residents in a neighborhood where a tree or trees are to be destroyed. If the resident in that area would like to submit a protest, it will cost $200 to protest--per tree! So it is punitive to question the decisions of the City. In other words, we are told to "be quiet; we will tell you what is needed". Yes, the City will get more in taxes, but we will be less and less the Tree City, with loss of the effect of trees on cooling the environment and adsorbing the carbon dioxide, let alone the diminished beauty of our setting.

Finally people are waking up to the destruction of the "canopy" by cutting down trees on the peninsula. However, the greatest offender is CALTRAIN and their destruction of massive numbers of trees along the much expanded right-of-way o erect unsightly power lines to electrify the San Jose to SF route.
It is both a massive waste of taxpayer's money & an environmental disaster! New battery technology and rapid chargers at stations would same billions of $$ over the construction of wider right-of-way and large power transmission towers & power lines through residential neighborhoods.
Speak up or lose your neighborhoods & environment!
