Atherton survey - A wolf in sheep's clothing and badgering the witness

Original post made by Peter Carpenter, Atherton: Lindenwood, on Jun 8, 2013

Many Atherton residents were the recipients of a letter from the Atherton Town Manager this week. The letter asks the recipient to participate in a survey which "addresses issues that affect the the quality of life in Atherton including the quality of services provided by the Town."

Surprise - the survey wants to know if you will support an extension of the parcel tax and the questions about the quality of Town services are all designed to encourage you to say YES.

Next surprise - if you state that you would not vote for an extension of the property tax then the survey instrument asks you 3 more times do you really mean NO and do you really understand that the parcel tax is essential to maintaining the quality of life in Atherton.

Last surprise - our two person household received two such participation letters which raises questions about how random was the selection process.

How ridiculous. This survey has zero credibility. Peter Carpenter as I recall had offered to help with a truly unbiased survey, but he was rebuffed.

But can anyone really be surprised that after the APOA bought the loyalty of Elizabeth Lewis and Cary Weist, they have spearheaded a survey that tries to lead residents to a foregone conclusion about further police budgets (i.e., the parcel tax)?
