Police find truck driver at fault in collision that killed cyclist Amelie Le Moullac

Original post made on Aug 29, 2013

San Francisco's police chief said on Aug. 29 that a big-rig driver has been found at fault in a collision that killed bicyclist Amelie Le Moullac, 24, in the city's South of Market neighborhood on Aug. 14. She was a graduate of Menlo School.

Here is what happens when a bicyclist kills a pedestrian.

"The Marin County bicyclist who fatally struck a pedestrian crossing the street in San Francisco's Castro neighborhood was sentenced Thursday to three years of probation and 1,000 hours of community service."

Lets see how they will handle this? Will it be equal justice?

Dear Curious,

The SFPD doggedly pursued the case you mentioned. Released tons of information during the investigation. And settled to avoid possibly losing in trial.

In the case mentioned above, the SFPD did NOTHING until they were presented with a video they said didn't exist and contacted by the family's lawyer. They did worse than nothing. Sgt Ernst came by the memorial to hassle family, friends and cyclists.

So, no, they will not handle it the same and it won't be equal justice.

Drivers who kill cyclists and stay around and cooperate with police are very rarely charged with anything. Quit whining that for once the SFPD is doing their job.

She was a member of our community and now she's gone. Car to bicycle, or bicycle to pedestrian, imagine how you would feel if she was your daughter and on the losing end of the equation. And to make matters worse, if that's even possible under these circumstances, with video apparently showing wrongfully so. Very sad. My heart goes out to Amelie's family and friends.

Senseless disregard to others safety that is so prevalent wether we are driving, cycling or walking.

And to add misconduct by the San Francisco police to a tragedy is reprehensible.

My condolences to Amélie Le Moullac's family and friends

I would like to openly thank all members of the community who have so much love and support to our family after the tragic loss of our dear Amelie.
We miss her terribly.
