Global Warming Assemblies at Menlo-Atherton High School

Original post made by Kelly Todd, Menlo-Atherton High School, on Feb 26, 2008

Menlo-Atherton High School's student-led Environmental Committee is taking "Going Green!" to the next level. Led by Anna Murveit, this environmentally conscious group of hard-working and extremely motivated students will be bringing Menlo-Atherton students together to discuss gloabal warming.

On Wednesday, February 27 and Thursday, February 28, Gary Latshaw, a representative from the Climate Project, will be presenting a condensed version of Al Gore's global warming presentation on the Menlo-Atherton High School campus. Over 1500 students will hear the presentation and be educated not only about global warming, but the will also be given suggestions regarding what they can do to help to environment on campus and throughout the community in their daily lives. As the chairperson of the Senate Environmental Quality Committee, Senator Joe Simitian passed legislation through the Senate to include global warming in the California curriculum although it will be awhile until it is included high school textbooks. In the meantime, the Menlo-Atherton Environmental Committee is taking action so that Menlo-Atherton's students will be informed and inspired to combat global warming as a unified body within our local and global communities.
