Who is this man? Why is he waiting for a bus?

Original post made on Jul 10, 2008

Our roving correspondent and ace photographer came upon a strange sight near The Almanac offices on Friday afternoon. He spotted a man waiting at a bus stop on Avy Avenue in West Menlo Park. Who is this man? And why is he waiting for a bus? Will one ever come? For the answers, keep an eye on the print edition of The Almanac. The answers are coming soon to a home near you.

I believe I know that man. He is waiting for a bus because he cannot afford to own a car.

Another tragic consequence of a Bush economy.

Actually, he is a public transit engineer trying to discover how easy it is to get around the Peninsula on public transit. He will soon discover that for each journey he will have to buy a separate ticket, he waits at a bus stop and has no idea how long the wait will be or if the bus actually runs today and when he reaches his destination he may not be able to find the bus stop for his return journey. If he is lucky, he may end up at a Caltrain station and then he will discover that he has to buy another ticket and if he is on his way to SFO, he will have to buy another ticket on BART.

Good luck, hope you get there. Glad it is your job to do this research for us because we have better things to do than to try and get to SFO by bus in time to catch our planes.

Global Warming, leaving a smaller carbon foot-print, Spare the Air Day.... There is nothing wrong with taking the bus even if you own a ford, mercedes, toyota, ferrari, or lotus!
