Now, that's got to be an expensive rescue. But a memorable one for those involved. Thank god for cell phones.

What a waste of tax payers resources. I hope the bill goes to the adult in charge. What was the emergency? The tide, as it has for millions of years would have rolled back in and the "emergency" would have been over before sundown. People with no boating experience or idea that one stays between the channel markers should be aware that the average depth in the bay is 12'.

So...once the tide did come back, what happened to the boat left behind? What a shame if the occupants were inconvenienced.

@ Bill: If you're a boater, then you would have spent a minute to look up the tide charts for 3/24. You would have seen that low tide was approximately 2 hours away from when the rescue call was made.

High tide was not due until approximately 23:30 that night.

Yes - the captain proved to be a poor navigator. But your criticisms about letting 3 children stay out in the Bay until Midnight is foolish if not callous.

And yes, I agree, they should pay for the rescue.

But in the meantime, why don't you get a clue.

I LOVE to read the kvetching about cost of a rescue from people living in the wealthiest parts of the planet - it reveals character, values, priorities & shallowness. Just imagine the cost of recovering the bodies...
