Portola Valley’s new Town Center is one of the top 10 green building projects of the year, according to an environmental committee of the American Institute of Architects.

The six-person committee recognized the work of the Town Center’s architects, Larry Strain of Siegel & Strain Architects and Jim Goring of Goring & Straja, and their team. Both firms are based in Ermeryville.

Mr. Strain said the project, completed in October, has more points than it needs to win a platinum designation from the U.S. Green Building Council, said Portola Valley Councilman Ted Driscoll. The platinum award is the highest recognition awarded for green commercial buildings.

The AIA Web site provides an analysis of the process the town went through; the use of land, water, energy and materials; the buildings’ indoor environment; and the financing.

  1. A well-deserved honor for a project that truly reflects the Town and its people. Congratulations to all those who worked so hard to make it possible!
