Voter guide: Christina Corpus aims to change sheriff's office culture through community-based policing and transparency

Original post made on May 12, 2022

For Christina Corpus being a woman in law enforcement has been a challenge since the beginning. She aims to change that culture from the top if elected as San Mateo County Sheriff on June 7.

How is the race looking for Corpus? Does she have a shot? Anyone?

Christina Corpus refused to meet with the Deputy Sheriff's Assoc (DSA) because she considered the questions they wanted to ask her to be "unfair." What is unfair about asking for more information about her proposed ICE policy, or asking her to explain more about "transparency" as it relates to the critical incident that occurred in HMB? Why won't she explain how, exactly, the promotional process is racist when she herself, a Latina woman, managed to promote through the ranks? She describes the current administration as "toxic" without providing specific examples. By the way, she is part of the current administration. She tells a story (because that is all it is) of a misogynistic comment allegedly made to her on her first day of work at the Sheriff's Office. That never happened. The reality is, Corpus was one of Sheriff Bolanos' biggest supporters and she was rewarded for her support with promotion after promotion. It was only when she was passed over for the position of Assistant Sheriff that she abruptly changed her political party affiliation from Republican to Democrat and announced her candidacy for Sheriff. Corpus lacks the experience and intelligence required to run the Sheriff's Office. Vote to re-elect Carlos Bolanos.

If you value the safety of this county you would not vote for her. Taking donations from the ACLU does not show you care about public safety.

To Jett:

You said, "She tells a story (because that is all it is) of a misogynistic comment allegedly made to her on her first day of work at the Sheriff's Office. That never happened."

How do you know it never happened? Unless you were shadowing her every single moment on her first day, I don't see how you could possibly know whether or not this occurred.

The Board of Supervisors have had in their possession a document written in 2010 by a female deputy sheriff that details , with photos, misogyny in the Sheriff's department.

Holly L:

It is interesting that, out of everything I wrote, your only take away was to defend Corpus' allegation that someone said something to her on her first day of work. Why is that, in her 20 years with the Sheriff's Office, Corpus never once made this claim until now? If it really happened as she said, she should name names. I can assure you, it never happened. But it sure makes for a good soundbite.

Regarding the letter to which you are referring, I am well aware of its existence. In summary, 12 years ago a female deputy wrote at length about a male deputy who was sending porn to other members of the office. That deputy was severely reprimanded as he should have been. End of story.

The bottom line is this: Corpus is saying a whole lot without saying anything at all. Why won't she answer legitimate questions to concerns raised not only by the DSA, but the voters at large? I'll tell you why: because she can't. She simply lacks the knowledge, intelligence and skills to run the office. The fact that the state's attorney general, the top cop in this state, endorsed Bolanos speaks volumes about who the best candidate is.

gtspencer,

Do you even know what the ACLU does? The protect peoples rights and I certainly would not want to vote for a person that does not care, or respect, the rights granted to Americans by the Constitution and the branches of our government. I have to agree with Menlo Voter, too many questions around Bolanos' visit to an illegal brothel that had sex trafficked people inside including a minor. He has claimed that the "taxi driver took them there when they wanted a massage" but seeing a picture of the place anyone, let alone two law enforcement officials, would know immediately this was not a legitimate business.
