A Menlo Park man who worked as the Ladera Recreation Center swim team photographer is being accused of of sexually abusing young boys and was arrested Thursday, July 25, according to the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office.
The alleged assaults of boys from 8 to 13 years old by Randy Haldeman, 59, occurred at the Ladera Recreation Center in Portola Valley and at the suspect’s home, for possibly as long as 30 years, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
During an investigation by sheriff’s deputies, which had begun in January, multiple victims came forward saying that they had been assaulted by Haldeman, according to Rosemerry Blankswade of the Sheriff’s Office.
The last incident reported was in 2015, Blankswade said.
Haldeman was arrested at his home on two counts of lewd and lascivious acts with a child under 14 years old, and was booked into San Mateo County Jail, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
He posted bail on July 25, Blankswade said.
Haldeman has an initial court appearance date on August 26, according to San Mateo County District Attorney Steve Wagstaffe.
On his LinkedIn page, Haldeman describes himself as a “CEO, CMO, Innovator, Mentor.” He is chief executive officer and president of Code-N, a Menlo Park-based “next-generation cloud computing company,” according to the company’s website.
Sheriff’s investigators believe that there are more victims who haven’t come forward, Blankswade said.

In case the deputies haven’t already figured this out, the accused was also a very active parent in the LLESD community and was a big party boy. He got around a lot.
The communities of Ladera, MP, PV, LLESD and the Big Brothers or Boys Club he was involved with should be informed directly by the sheriff’s office.
We also need some kind of community info on how to be the most supportive (and subtle) we can be to generations of boys who may have been molested by the accused. Adults will talk, kids will talk, victims may hear it being talked about. Victims may have buried memories rise to the surface. An invisible fault line is running through our community; the damage Haldeman has caused will reverberate for decades.
How do we, as a community, give these boys and men the safe space they need, as well as privacy and support? It’s not their shame, it’s Haldeman’s. But as young boys they would feel the shame, which leads to secrets and corrodes well-being. Instead of burying it, how can we demonstrate support?
