A San Francisco man accused of forcible rape in an incident in Portola Valley in June 2018 is in the midst of a trial on that charge and six other felony charges for which he could receive life in prison, according to San Mateo County District Attorney Steve Wagstaffe.

In addition to forcible rape, Jairon Juarez is charged with counts of forcible sodomy, felony threats, felony assault, felony robbery and two counts of felony domestic violence, Wagstaffe said.

He is eligible for life in prison for using a knife during the incident, Wagstaffe said.

Juarez, 33, allegedly raped his girlfriend after they went together to clean a closed Portola Valley office building, according to the District Attorney’s Office.

The two went into a small bathroom in the building to have sex, at which point Juarez allegedly took out a knife, pointed it at his girlfriend’s neck and demanded to know if she was cheating on him.

He then knocked the victim to the floor, swung the knife at her and strangled her with a lanyard of keys around her neck, according to the District Attorney’s Office.

Juarez told the victim that he was going to kill her, then allegedly raped and sodomized her, according to the District Attorney’s Office.

The victim fled the building after the incident and Juarez followed, grabbing her and telling her to return to the office, Wagstaffe said. When she refused, he allegedly took her car keys from her pocket and fled in her car. The victim then flagged down a firefighter and asked for help, Wagstaffe said.

The girlfriend had reported a prior incident in which the defendant accused her of cheating and then punched her in the nose, causing her nose to bleed and become inflamed, according to the DA’s Office.

The prosecution rested its case on Friday, Aug. 2 and closing arguments are expected on Tuesday or Wednesday, Wagstaffe said.

Juarez remains in custody on $2 million bail.
