The Menlo School boys soccer team clinched its first West Bay Athletic League title since 2017 after beating visiting Harker 9-2 Tuesday.
“The boys have shown that they’re very resourceful, they’re going to keep fighting,” Menlo coach Marc Kerrest said. “Control what you can control, especially this year when so much is out of your hands. We’ve really focused on that.”
The Knights (8-0-0) overcame a sluggish start and extended a one-goal halftime lead to secure the title with two games remaining.
“The boys did a great job equalizing before halftime then scored two big goals after halftime, Kerrest said. “In the first half, maybe not our best performance, maybe a little bit of nerves. It’s tough to get up for every game. In the second half, they showed how much they wanted league.”
Menlo senior Tor Micaelian remained on a torrid pace, adding four goals and an assist to an already impressive season. Senior Christian Corcoran added two goals and an assist.
Menlo got a goal and an assist from both Ilan Listgarten and Steph Nivaggioli, who three days earlier helped the tennis team to a win over Bellarmine.

Senior Jason Bloom added a goal while senior Luke Appel and junior Emilio Velten-Lomelin each had two assists. Junior Daniel Louie contributed another assist and senior goalie Peter Gray picked up the victory.
Sacred Heart Prep (5-3, 5-3) beat visiting The King’s Academy 10-0 Tuesday and Priory topped visiting Crystal Springs Uplands 3-1 in other league matches.
Menlo will be at TKA, Harker travels to Priory and SHP goes to Crystal Springs Uplands for league matches Thursday.
Girls soccer

In a battle between WBAL undefeated teams, Menlo prevailed over host Notre Dame Belmont 2-1 on Tuesday.
The Knights (5-0-0) got the winning goal about 12 minutes into the second half when senior Gabby Kogler dribbled through the line and sent her kick into the back of the net.
Menlo continued to create scoring chances, outshooting NDB 14-3. Sophomore Samantha Sellers manned the goal with senior Ellie Gruber coming in for a spell to record the win.

Notre Dame (6-1-0) struck first with a goal. The Knights evened the score when sophomore Tabitha Corcoran delivered a header into the net from junior Carolina Espinosa.
The Knights return to the field against Notre Dame-San Jose on Thursday.
Freshman Molly Tinsley scored twice, senior Megan Tinsley recorded two assists and Sacred Heart Prep beat host Notre Dame San Jose 4-1 in a WBAL contest.
Maya Moffat and Sydney Adas also scored for the Gators (4-3), who host Mercy Burlingame Thursday afternoon. Brenda Melgoza added an assist.
Priory beat Mercy 1-0 at home Tuersday.
Girls basketball
Palo Alto opened an early lead and breezed to a 64-16 victory over host Wilcox on Tuesday in a SCVAL De Anza Division contest.
Annika Shah, 5-for-7 from long range, scored 17 points to lead the Titans (7-4, 6-2), who host Wilcox on Friday night.
Carly Martin added 13 points and Ilayda Turgut and Jessica Fiske combined for 10 points and 13 rebounds. Turgut blocked six shots.
Carmel Tong scored 21 points but Gunn fell to Milpitas 50-36 Tuesday. Mollie Kuelker added nine points.
Boys basketball
Sacred Heart Prep beat visiting Crystal Springs Uplands 86-33 in a West Bay Athletic League contest Tuesday.
Aidan Braccia scored 18 points for the Gators (7-4, 6-1), who play at The King’s Academy Thursday night.
Harrison Carrington netted 17 points while Kevin Carney went for 11 points. Jake York and RJ Stephens combined for another 17 points.
Menlo also took an early lead in its 69-45 victory over host Pinewood on Tuesday.
Senior Chris Cook paced the attack with a game-high 18 points and pulled down nine rebounds for the Knights (3-3 WBAL)
Sophomore Lucas Vogel had 12 points and made four steals while senior Hunter Riley contributed nine points, seven rebounds, four steals and five assists.
Sophomore Ty Richardson distributed six assists for Menlo, which meets Pinewood (3-5, 1-5) again at home on Saturday.
Milpitas hit a 3-pointer in the final 15 seconds to edge Gunn, 55-54, in a SCVAL El Camino Division game Tuesday.
Gavin Kitch, who finished with 19 points, made one of two free throws to put the Titans ahead with 48 seconds remaining to play.
Yotam Elazar had 10 points and Luke McFaul added nine for Gunn (5-4, 4-3), which plays at Wilcox on Wednesday and hosts the Chargers on Friday.
Girls water polo

Jayden Kratt and Kate Mallery traded places and both held their own for the Gunn girls team, a 16-2 winner over visiting Mountain View in SCVAL De Anza Division play Tuesday.
Kratt allowed one goal in three quarters while defending the net. Mallery scored three goals through three quarters to help the Titans (9-0, 7-0) build a 10-1 lead heading into the final period.
So Kratt became a field player for the fourth and Mallery became a goalkeeper. Kratt scored a goal, Mallery allowed one goal and then scored on a long shot from net to net.

The Titans remained a game ahead of second-place Castilleja, which beat host Palo Alto, 8-4, Tuesday.
Anjali Kambham, Gabby Lewis and Sydney Lowell each recorded a pair of goals for the Gators (8-1, 7-1), who host Gunn on Thursday afternoon. Abena Ofori-Nyako had seven saves.
Kenza Ashworth led the Titans with five goals, one of nine players who found the back of the net.
Boys water polo
Gunn remained undefeated in SCVAL play following its 20-14 victory over visiting Mountain View on Tuesday.
Sam Schube and Blake Synder each scored five goals to pace the Titans (7-1, 7-0). Jordan Affeld added four goals and goalie Keyon Vossough had 11 saves and three assists.
Boys tennis
Gunn won its home match against Los Gatos, 6-1. The Titans (4-4, 3-4) took three of four singles matches and swept the doubles matches.
Baseball
Palo Alto scored three runs in the top of the sixth to tie the score at 5-5 but host Burlingame rallied for two runs in the bottom of the eighth for a walk-off win in non-league action Tuesday night.
Zander Darby drove in two runs, Aidan Berger collected three hits and a RBI. Xavier Esquer had two hits and scored twice as the Vikings (11-4) lost their second straight for the first time this season.
Paly travels to play at Mountain View on Wednesday afternoon.
Quinton Sterling had three hits and scored twice but Gunn fell to host Saratoga in a SCVAL contest Tuesday.
Simon Illouz added a pair of hits for the Titans (5-6, 4-4), who host Saratoga Thursday afternoon.
