La Honda resident Bob Dougherty has documented his home town’s history in a new book.
One of Arcadia Publishing’s “Images of America” series, the book traces the town’s roots, from the obligatory overview of the native Ohlone era to the antics of merry prankster Ken Kesey.
Mr. Dougherty has promised a copy of the book to every family at La Honda Elementary School.
The photo-laden paperback reveals some surprising tidbits about the town, including a map of its many oil wells, several stories on the origin of its name, and anecdotes about its famous resident, rocker Neil Young.
A San Francisco native, Mr. Doughtery moved to La Honda 15 years ago, and is the president of the La Honda Guild, a governing body that acts as the community’s city council. He is a longtime aerospace engineer for Lockheed Martin, where he wrote a weekly satirical column. He also was publisher of the La Honda Voice newspaper.
The 128-page book is available for $19.99 at local bookstores, online at ArcadiaPublishing.com or by calling (888) 313-2665.
