October got off to a good start for Portola Valley resident Laura Trudelle, a junior at Westmont College in Santa Barbara and the volleyball player of the week for the week ending Oct. 7.
The honor came from the Golden State Athletic Conference and the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics following a week in which Trudelle led Westmont to two wins, including against eighth-ranked Point Loma Nazarene, said Ron Smith, Westmont’s sports information director.
Trudelle produced eight kill shots in the third game of the set against Point Loma and served for five points in a rally that led to a 32-30 victory, Smith said.
“What I really like about Laura is that she improves all the time,” said Coach Jim Smoot. “She is always ready to work hard and always has a smile on her face, even when I am criticizing her.”
