So many people are impacted by Alzheimer’s disease in the Bay Area that the local Alzheimer’s Association chapter felt the need to expand its efforts and is now launching the first Silicon Valley Memory Walk to raise awareness and money for research and support.
Participants may sign up as individuals or teams to walk three flat miles along the Guadalupe River Parkway in downtown San Jose on Sept. 20, starting at 10 a.m.
Registration is free, but walkers are encouraged to find sponsors for the event, and pre-register by logging onto www.alz.org/memorywalk.
Peter Daly of Woodside is co-chairing this walk and helped run the Memory Walk on Treasure Island last year.
“The Treasure Island event is still taking place on Oct. 11, but it’s exciting to see so much fresh energy going into the new venue in Silicon Valley,” he says. “We will also have live music, food and information booths in San Jose, and be that much more convenient for friends and families of Alzheimer’s patients living on the Peninsula and in the South Bay.”
