The young and the youngish will battle it out again on basketball court at Woodside High School on Wednesday night, Nov. 26, when this year’s boys and girls varsity teams meet their counterparts among the alumni for the annual contest to see who’s better with the round ball.
The game has some particular significance this year, as it is the 50th anniversary year of the school’s founding. Game time is 7 p.m. in the main gym at 199 Churchill Road, just west of Alameda de las Pulgas and Woodside Road. Tickets are $5.
Barbecue dinners by alumni Frank York commence at 5:30 p.m. in the main gym. Tickets are $5.
On the alumni side of things, coaching the men will be Rich Kelley, NBA veteran and Woodside athlete of the year in 1971. Other alumni with that title and playing this year are Ronnie Davenport, 1998; and Michael Porter, 2001.
For the alumni women, Lili Milton, varsity forward and student body president for the class of 1998, will both play and coach. Other women expected to play include three athletes of the year: Jessica Gray, 1998; Jennifer Adolph, 2000; and Miali Reynoso, 2002.
Entertainment will be by the school’s jazz band as well as current and alumni dance teams, cheerleaders, and hip-hop dancer Adrian Johnson, a junior who won the grand prize at this year’s talent show. Junior Audrey Baker will sing the national anthem.
Other highlights of the evening: drawings for gift certificates for Bucks Restaurant in Woodside and Draeger’s Supermarket in Menlo Park; a silent auction for memorabilia autographed by NBA star Shaquille O’Neal; and booths selling 50th anniversary bricks, t-shirts and WHS spirit-wear.
