Local athletes from the Woodside Vaulters equestrian vaulting club won individual awards at the Federation Equestre Internationale’s North American Junior/Young Rider championships, held July 22 in Lexington, Kentucky.
The sport of vaulting involves gymnastics and dance on a moving horse.
Carrie Wick, a spokesperson for Woodside Vaulters, provided this information:
In the women’s one-star level, Yvonne Greenen, 14, of Los Altos took first place and Kathryn Jaggers, 15, of Portola Valley finished fourth.
In the men’s two-star level, Patrick Stevens, 17, of Martinez won first, and teammate Gabe Aniello, 18, of Vancouver, Washington, came in second.
In the women’s two-star level, Ali Divita, 20, of Redwood City finished second; Megan Lanfri, 19, of San Jose finished fourth; and Katharine Wick, 16, of Hillsborough came in fifth.
Top U.S. and Canadian vaulters, ages 14 to 21, competed in this event, said Isabelle Parker, Woodside Vaulters’ head coach.
