To cut costs and streamline support at school sites, the Sequoia Union High School District will restructure its management team beginning May 1, Superintendent Crystal Leach said in a news release.
Current Associate Superintendent Bonnie Hansen will take over the leadership of the Human Resources Department, filling the vacancy left by the resignation of Assistant Superintendent Todd Beal, who is leaving on June 30. Beal will continue to support Hansen during this leadership transition until his last day of employment.
Hansen, who has worked at the district for over 30 years, has served in a wide variety of classroom and leadership roles. She began teaching English at Menlo-Atherton High School and has more than 10 years of experience as the assistant principal and principal at Sequoia Union High School. Hansen has also served in staff roles in the Educational Services and HR Department and, most recently, led the Educational Services Department for more than 11 years.
Elizabeth Chacón, currently serving as the assistant superintendent of student services, will move to leadership of the Educational Services Department. Chacón carries over two decades of experience working in various roles across several school districts in the Bay Area. Her experiences include teaching in classrooms, curriculum training, professional development and district leadership.
The district states that most of the work and responsibilities of the current Student Services Department will move to HR and Educational Services will oversee school counselors and psychologists.
Superintendent Leach explained that after reviewing potential funding cuts from lower property tax revenue in San Mateo County, she found that reducing and realigning her cabinet was the best method to support the district’s strategic plan while prioritizing resources for classrooms and students.
“I anticipate a seamless transition with key leadership roles being assumed by two individuals who already have a deep understanding of our district’s operations,” said Superintendent Leach. “As an organization, we will benefit tremendously from the cross collaboration that will result from the collective wide array of experience Ms. Hansen and Dr. Chacón bring.”

First, for Leach to commend , is disgusting to say the least. However, like criminals they keep their patterns and both can continue to cost tax payers huge funds with no possible outcome but defeat. Hansen, well the little dealing I had with her is just as bad, so makes sense since she’s been smart enough to stay out of the muliple lawsuits, I give her that one credit. No comment of Dr Chacon and hope she makes positive changes for the ones who need support like the children and teachers. If the board refuses to do whats right and terminate Leach and others name then eventually the courts will. This district does serve as an example to others on not what to do when it comes to crimes, laws and civil rights. Schools learn stay far away from that district as it’s a mess and we hope in the upcoming weeks you will get to read how these individuals do under oath and we close out their cover-ups.
