Woodside senior Elise Evans, Los Altos senior Allie Montoya, Palo Alto resident Jasmine Aikey and Redwood City resident Freya Spiekerkoetter are among the seven incoming freshmen to sign national letters of intent with the Stanford women’s soccer program, Cardinal coach Paul Ratcliffe announced Monday.
“I am very excited to welcome this incredible group of student-athletes to The Farm,” Ratcliffe said. “They have all been extremely successful at the youth level and have the ability to come in and make an immediate impact on the team. They have the character and work-ethic necessary to be successful at Stanford. I look forward to working with them, and I am confident they can help us compete for another national championship.”
Burlingame’s Amalie Pianim also signed with the Cardinal.
Stanford completed the 2021 season with a 13-6-1 overall record after making its 23rd NCAA Tournament appearance in the last 24 years.
Evans, the No. 1 recruit in the Class of 2022 according to Top Drawer Soccer, played for the United States at UEFA Development tournaments in Portugal, the Netherlands and England.
She led Woodside to a 10-1-3 mark last season. The Wildcats lost, in overtime, to eventual champion Mitty in the semifinals of the Central Coast Section Open Division.
“I chose Stanford because it provides the resources and environment to achieve all my goals on and off the field,” Evans said. “I grew up attending home games and look forward to playing for all the youth players in my own community.”
Evans, who originally committed verbally to Stanford in 2019, will become a fifth generation Stanford student.
Her mother (Dena Dey Evans) played on Stanford’s 1993 Final Four soccer team and her father (Marlon Evans) played football and ran track at Stanford.
“My family has a long history at Stanford, and I am excited to potentially be a part of the first mother-daughter combination here on the women’s soccer team, while helping the team write the next chapter in the legacy of the program,” she said. “I feel comfortable with the coaches, and confident in the fit with the Stanford style of play.”
Montoya has earned multiple honors while playing for Los Altos and Mountain View Los Altos Club Soccer. She’s been named Elite Club National League Player of the Year and conference MVP, Freshman State Player of the Year and SCVAL De Anza Division MVP.
“I chose Stanford because it is my dream school,” she said. “Stanford features amazing academics and athletics.”
Aikey, who attends Bryant Academy, was a teammate with Montoya on MVLA’s ECNL U17 national championship team earlier this season.
“I chose Stanford because it is the best of both worlds for me,” Aikey said. “Stanford has a fantastic soccer program and is an excellent school.”
Spiekerkoetter, who attends Silicon Valley International School, was also a member of the MVLA national championship team.
“The opportunity to get to play soccer under such an exceptional coaching staff and play with a team that I grew up watching as a kid is why I chose Stanford,” she said. “Additionally, being undecided on the area I want to study, Stanford provides a wide range of possibilities and avenues to explore.”
Stanford also signed Lumi Kostmayer (Southbury, Conn.) and Logan Smith (Boise).
