The Alpine Little League 12U All-Stars played a close game on Monday evening, but ultimately fell 4-3 against Hawaii’s Honolulu Little League in the fourth game of the West Region Tournament in San Bernardino.

Despite the loss, the Alpine Little League will have another chance at securing a spot in the championship game if they win in the fifth game against Fullerton’s Golden Hill Little League on Wednesday, Aug. 6. Fullerton’s team won 7-3 against Arizona’s Arcadia Little League in the third game on Monday morning.

While the young baseball stars are spending the week in San Bernardino, local supporters from Menlo Park, Woodside and Portola Valley are cheering for the team at home base. The Dutch Goose sports bar in West Menlo Park hosted another watch party on Monday evening with fans, families and young Little Leaguers in attendance.

The Aug. 4 game was featured on ESPN, showcasing the team’s signature pink accents in their bright sleeves and bedazzled necklaces.

The teams tied the game at 3-3 in the fourth inning and it remained that way through two tense innings until Hawaii scored one run in the final inning — ending the game with a loss for Menlo Park.

Coming up, the Alpine Little League must win its game against Fullerton on Wednesday in order to compete against Hawaii on Thursday, Aug, 7. for the title of West Region Champions.

A victory against Hawaii then would secure the winning team a spot in the Little League World Series in Williamsport, Pa., to compete against the top United States and International teams.
