Only one football team remains unbeaten in the PAL Bay Division race, and one only has to go as far as Atherton to find it.
That team is Menlo-Atherton, which improved to 2-0 in league play (4-1 overall) with a dominating 44-12 victory over host Terra Nova (2-1, 2-3) on Friday night in Pacifica.
The showdown was between the final two undefeated teams in the PAL Bay Division. While Menlo-Atherton is the last unbeaten squad, Friday’s game wasn’t the final showdown.
Another will take place next Saturday when Menlo School (2-1, 4-1) plays host to the Bears at 2 p.m.
Menlo remained in the PAL race with a 23-13 triumph over host South San Francisco on Friday night.
If Menlo is to be successful again next weekend, it will have to do a better job against M-A’s Will Latu than Terra Nova. Latu scored the first three touchdowns of the game on runs of 48, 5 and 5 and finished with 162 yards rushing on 15 carries.
With Latu leading the way, the Bears gained 359 yards on the ground. Equally impressive was the fact Terra Nova’s ground game was limited to just 72 yards. M-A had 422 yards in total offense while Terra Nova finished with 180.
Along with Latu, backfield mate Jamal Wilkins scored twice and rushed for 37 yards.
M-A’s Shaka Pahulu added a TD when he picked up a teammate’s fumble and rambled 67 yards for the score.
In South San Francisco, Menlo got 223 yards passing and two touchdowns from senior quarterback Travis Boyce in the Knights’ important victory on the road.
Boyce’s first completition was a 70-yard touchdown strike to RJ Carver barely two minutes into the contest.
Boyce also threw a 14-yard TD pass to Jerry Rice Jr., who also returned a first-quarter kickoff 51 yards for another score.
