Menlo Park police are looking for any information regarding a flurry of catalytic converter thefts.
Catalytic converters, located underneath the body of most vehicles, are intended to reduce the toxicity of engine fumes. They’re often made of valuable metals, such as platinum.
In the past seven months, nine converters have been reported stolen from vehicles — all of them Toyotas — parked in various Menlo Park locations, according to police.
Anyone with information is asked to call Sgt. Sharon Kaufman at 330-6343.
City looks to engage online
Menlo Park City Council meetings provide a forum for local residents to voice their opinions about various issues.
The city is looking to set up a similar forum online.
Community Engagement Manager Cherise Brandell said city staff is looking into hiring an outside provider to create “Web-based” forums where members of the public can go online and talk about city issues with other residents, members of city staff, and elected officials.
Ms. Brandell said the idea is still in the conceptual stages, but her goal is to create a “solution oriented” forum where an array of opinions can be voiced.
“We need to make it safe to disagree and make a safe place where those differences of opinions can be expressed,” she said.
Mixer at Oak City
The Menlo Park Chamber of Commerce will hold a free mixer on Wednesday, Oct. 1, at Oak City Bar and Grill, 1029 El Camino Real near Santa Cruz Avenue.
The event will run from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. in the restaurant’s banquet room. There will be refreshments and live music, the chamber says.
