Musician and composer Hwayoung Shon, the master of the gayageum (a 12-string zither), performs as part of Forms & Frequencies, a new Thursday-night series from Stanford’s Cantor Arts Center that hosts musicians and sound artists while holding special evening open hours at the museum.
According to the event’s website, Shon, who was born in South Korea and now calls the Bay Area home, has collaborated with everyone from K-pop stars to classical ensembles and aims to introduce Korean cultural heritage to worldwide audiences. The program is in conjunction with the “Spirit House” exhibition from the Cantor’s Asian American Art Initiative currently on view.Â
