Dear Editor,
I am writing to express my deep concern regarding the recent departure of Undersheriff Chris Hsiung and the announcement of a change in strategic direction at the sheriff’s office. This move is troubling and raises questions about what led to this decision, and what the new strategy is.
When Sheriff (Christina) Corpus took office, she promised transparency and a change in culture. The unexplained and abrupt departure of the undersheriff, a nationally recognized expert who had been brought in to promote a culture of positive policing, was not handled transparently. This undermines public confidence in our law enforcement leadership and creates uncertainty within the organization.
Such changes, implemented with no notice or explanation, may create risks to public safety. The community needs to know what the new strategy is and why it changed. Transparency and accountability are essential to restoring public trust and ensuring that our law enforcement can effectively serve and protect our community.
Sincerely,
Jim Lawrence
Board Chair, Fixin San Mateo County

Mr. Lawrence’s point can hardly be more germane or clearly stated.
Given the stained history of this outfit augmented by its heretofore all but impassable wall of silence, it’s mind boggling and disappointing that the new sheriff is not visibly immoderate in explaining things and in soliciting questions and comments from the public.
Verbose, I know.
Corpus and Aenlle used Fixen to get elected and now turned their backs on them?? She did the same to the every one on her transition team as well. Hsiung got two days notice and the rest of the office got an email.
