On Saturday, March 15 from 1-4 p.m., the Menlo Park Historical Association and the West Bay Model Railroad Association are teaming together to honor some of the oldest businesses in Menlo Park — what the historical association calls “pillars of the community.”
The event, which is celebrating the anniversaries of nearly a dozen businesses and associations that have been operating in Menlo Park for over 50 years, will take place at the West Bay Model Railroad Association’s headquarters at 1090 Merrill St. — where they have built several HO scale model railway tracks.
“We wanted to recognize and appreciate those who are still in business,” said MPHA President Sandra Pachaud in an email to this news organization.
The event will feature model trains, historical displays, snacks donated by the various businesses being celebrated and a raffle for two $50 gift cards to ACE Hardware.
The anniversaries being celebrated at the event are West Bay Model Railroad Association’s 75th, Safeway’s 87th, Baskin Robbins’ 70th, Round Table Pizza’s 65th, Peet’s Coffee’s 54th, Trader Joe’s 51st and Menlo Park Chevron’s 51st.
The event will also celebrate the 150th anniversary of the city of Menlo Park’s incorporation and the 80th anniversary of the Menlo Park Police Department’s formation.
The Model Railroad Association also hosts open houses on the first and third Saturdays of every month, where those interested can see the model trains running and learn more about the history of the organization.
