Even on the surface, it’s easy to understand why the Midpeninsula is such a sought-after place to live. The region is well-known for its tree-lined streets and variety of historic architecture, and certainly, it’s an understatement to say that word has gotten out about its many high-performing schools and overall great quality of life. But the area is so much more than its (admittedly well-deserved) reputation as an enclave of desirable real estate.
Our “A Day In” series explores the history, architecture, points of interest and other unique offerings that set our local neighborhoods apart from one another.
This week, we’re highlighting Kings Mountain, an unincorporated community that stretches along Skyline Boulevard in the Santa Cruz Mountains about 5 miles above Woodside. Known for its redwood forests, fern-lined canyons, ocean vistas and distinctive geology, the area stands apart from much of the Peninsula. Once a logging town and later a summer retreat, Kings Mountain has evolved into a full-time residential community, blending modest cabins from its early years with multimillion-dollar homes on largely secluded properties.
