If you’re craving a “Pineapple Express” or “Grape-ful Dead” smoothie, you’ll have to look elsewhere, because on Tuesday, February 14, Joseph Carcione III is closing his Juice Patch shop, and his business in back: Home Field Advantage sports cards.

The store, located at 626 Santa Cruz Ave. in downtown Menlo Park, has been dispensing fresh juice drinks and selling sports cards since 1996.

Mr. Carcione, though, had been selling sports cards since 1989.

Business is slower these days. “People are buying cards on the Internet, especially the bigger purchases that run over $100,” he said.

He also notes that kids are choosing to spend their money on electronics, such as I-Pods.

The son of Bobbie and Joseph Carcione Jr., Mr. Carcione is the grandson and namesake of the late “Green Grocer” radio and television personality: Joseph Carcione of Atherton.

He’s lived in Menlo Park since he was 4.

He and his wife, JoAnn, are sending their two older daughters, Alicia and Brianna, to his old grammar school, St. Raymond. Caitlin, 5, will attend kindergarten there next year.

What’s next for Joe Carcione? He’s headed for a career in real estate. He’s also looking forward to a couple weeks of vacation. Although the Juice Patch is closing, he will continue to fill smoothie orders for La Entrada, Oak Knoll, Corte Madera and Hillview schools.
