The Peninsula Humane Society and SPCA is actively seeking trustworthy feline-lovers to adopt black cats, bucking what they claim is many shelters’ yearly October practice to prevent people from taking in the creatures often abused around Halloween.
Humane society staff reports that while they more carefully scrutinize potential adopters of black cats at this time of the year, they still encourage people to make homes for the difficult-to-place felines.
“It seems unlikely that a person with bad intentions will go into a shelter, pay $70 and sit through an adoption counseling session,” spokesman Scott Delucchi said in a statement.
The $70 fee includes spaying/neutering, vaccinations, licenses, identifying microchips and behavior screenings.
People can check out some of the 16 black or mostly black felines, out of the 100 cats up for adoption, at http://www.PHS-SPCA.org
Adoption hours are Monday through Friday from 11 a.m. until 7 p.m. and on the weekends until 6 pm. PHS/SPCA is located off U.S. 101 north of Coyote Point Park at 12 Airport Blvd. in San Mateo.
