The San Mateo County Board of Supervisors have awarded nearly $30 million in funding for five affordable housing projects from Daly City to Menlo Park.

The supervisors unanimously voted to allocate the funding to projects that will help address a housing shortage in the county, officials said in a news release on Aug. 1.

The five housing projects awarded funding are: 1051 Mission Street in South San Francisco; 45 Midway Drive in Daly City; 678 Ralston Avenue in Belmont; 429 MacArthur Avenue in Redwood City; and the Veterans Administration at 795 Willow Road in Menlo Park.

The VA, in collaboration with developer MidPen Housing, is planning to build a complex of 62 apartments for veterans and their families who earn between 30% and 50% of the area median income. The complex will be largely three stories tall, with a two-story area closest to the street, according to plans reviewed by the Menlo Park Planning Commission this spring.

“We are committed to building, preserving and protecting housing that is affordable to a wide range of individuals and families,” said Dave Pine, president of the board of supervisors. “These projects will provide quality homes near jobs, schools and transit and will help make our county a stronger and more equitable community for everyone.”

According to the county’s executive office, much of the funding came from Measure K, a countywide half-cent sales tax extension.
