Portola Valley residents who are thinking globally about climate change have a new opportunity to act locally — as charter members of the town’s Sustainability Committee, if they apply by Thursday, April 29.

The committee’s overall goal, consistent with the sustainability chapter in the town’s general plan, is to encourage residents to participate in living a sustainable lifestyle in areas that include home remodeling and construction, transportation, use of water and landscaping choices.

The term is for one year and includes a reading assignment, becoming familiar with regional green-lifestyle programs, a commitment to having your home assessed and using the results to make it greener, and hosting a neighborhood meeting afterwards.

Members must also commit to attending at least 75 percent of the committee meetings. Such committees generally meet once a month.

To apply, review the committee charter at this link and fill out the online application at this link.

For more information, call Brandi de Garmeaux, the town’s environmental program coordinator, at 851-1700, ext. 222.
