Among the many things that make me grateful to live in the Bay Area is our proximity to the waterfront. We’re surrounded by bodies of water that serve as playgrounds for water sports like kayaking and sailing, scenic backdrops for picnics and parties, and spots for serenity amid busy schedules.
On the Peninsula, we’re lucky enough to be close to the coast and the shoreline, providing plentiful opportunities for getting out on the water or being beside it. Edwina Dueñas has written a go-to guide to eight shoreline parks and the wide range of activities they host, from windsurfing and cycling to dining and fishing. Savor the last few weeks of summer with a shoreline daycation after checking out Edwina’s article (with beautiful vista photos by Devin Roberts).

At a busy intersection across Tanforan Mall in San Bruno sits Hangry Planet gas station and car wash. While some drivers stop by for fuel, others are drawn in by oddities like a life-sized merman statue on the roof and the smell of plant-based barbecue.
