If you’re like me, your collection of spices and seasonings is bordering on unwieldy, bottles and bags with contents in a variety of colors and textures crammed in more than one rack in the corner of your kitchen. Despite having so many options already, it’s hard to say no to sneaking more into the mix – variety is the spice of life, after all. And having a good selection of spices in your kitchen can unlock the doors to so many different dishes from a wide variety of cuisines.

Local spice companies are the subject of Karla Kane’s food feature this week, as she interviewed the owners behind three businesses – Simply Bhonu, which offers special chai blends along with an emphasis on Parsi cuisine; Whole Spice Kitchen, which seeks to simplify making Indian meals at home; and Beirut Spice Co., which imports sustainably sourced spices and seasonings from Lebanon. Give it a read and go grab some new seasonings to support small businesses and spice things up in the kitchen.

People of the world, spice up your life!
