The next feature in our series about local clubs and groups that foster community focuses on Peninsula Outdoor Painters (POPs).
Founded in 1977, the club convenes every week to paint in the open air, bringing together outdoor enthusiasts and artists of all skill levels at nearby parks, preserves and beaches. Painting locations have included Westpoint Harbor in Redwood City, Holbrook-Palmer Park in Atherton and Baylands Nature Preserve in Palo Alto, among many others.
“The primary reason people join is for social reasons, to meet other painters,” said Carolyn Chambers, the group’s current organizer. “And it’s also for a love of painting — they just love creating art. To get to do it in the company of other people who also love it is very enjoyable.”
