During its annual mayoral rotation, the town of Portola Valley selected Craig Taylor as its mayor and Mary Hufty as vice mayor for 2026. During a Town Council meeting on Dec. 10, outgoing mayor Judith Hasko was recognized by the community for her work during a challenging year.
Hasko reflected on the progress the town made over the last year in managing its financial crisis, amending its housing element, welcoming interim Town Manager Mark Linder, hiring permanent Town Manager Darcy Smith and navigating staff vacancies.
As the town moves forward into the new year, Hasko encouraged the community to continue to be engaged with the Town Council on issues around selecting revenue enhancement measures, improving long-term planning for the town’s finances, refining approach to wildfire and natural disasters and addressing affordable housing challenges.
“Your thoughts, energy, ideas and passions are a vital part of Portola Valley. We have an amazing town,” said Hasko in her speech. “Let’s bring our best efforts over the next year to celebrate and protect it for the future. Thank you for the opportunity to serve as mayor over the last year.”
San Mateo County Supervisor Ray Mueller presented Hasko with a certificate of appreciation on behalf of the San Mateo County Board of Supervisors.
During nominations, council member Rebecca Flynn nominated Taylor for mayor and Hasko nominated Hufty for vice mayor. The council unanimously voted to approve both nominations.
“Three years ago I ran on fiscal responsibility, public safety and civility and I have to say that this council has been the epitome of civility,” said Taylor.”This coming year, we’ve got some big challenges to deal with but I look forward to working with you all on those challenges and with the staff.”
