President Barack Obama arrived at San Francisco International Airport on Wednesday evening for a quick fundraising trip in the Bay Area. The president touched down at SFO at 5:30 p.m.

Wearing a dark suit and blue tie, the president waved to reporters and airport staff as he quickly descended the stairs from Air Force One and got into the backseat of a waiting SUV limousine.

He is in the Bay Area until Thursday afternoon to raise money for the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee and the Democratic National Committee.

He attended two San Francisco events Wednesday night and will attend another two in Atherton Thursday.

The president’s motorcade left the airport at 5:41 p.m. to head to a cocktail reception at the home of billionaire and former hedge fund manager Tom Steyer and Kat Taylor.

Following that event, he attended a dinner at the home of philanthropists Ann and Gordon Getty. Both events raised money for the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee.

Before his departure Thursday afternoon, the president will be in the Peninsula for two fundraisers to benefit the Democratic National Committee.

The first will be a $32,000-a-head brunch at the Atherton home of Liz Simons and Mark Heising. The president will then visit the home of Marcia and John Goldman. The cheapest tickets to that event cost $1,000.

President Obama will take off from SFO Thursday afternoon. The president was last in the Bay Area during his re-election campaign in October.

  1. I just wish the guy would realize he is the President of the United States and start doing his job instead of campaigning constantly. He owes us, the American people, his full attention to fixing the mess he has created over the past 4 years. It is a tragedy that he only campaigns, golfs, and takes elaborate vacations—all while many are suffering in this country.

  2. One can only hope that the Obama administration will make Gail Slocum, Heyward Robinson and Kelly Fergusson political appointees. That way Menlo Park will will be temporarily restored to political sanity.

  3. “instead of campaigning constantly.”

He’s fundraising. Want to change campaign finance law to eliminate it?

“to fixing the mess he has created over the past 4 years”

You mean fixing Bush’s DISASTER? He has, albeit slowly. We need more jobs bills, of course. Dow is up from 8k to 14k. Took Bushes trillion dollar deficit and Great Recession and is moving in the right direction.

That’s why he WON in a LANDSLIDE!

” It is a tragedy that he only campaigns, golfs, and takes elaborate vacations”

Bush took 5 times as much vacation. Reagan took far more. Quit lying.

  4. For those who think the President should be working more… from the ultra conservative Wash Times, the right wing paper owned by Rev Moon (moonies.).

“President Obama in his first four years has taken 131 days, dividing his time between Hawaii, Martha’s Vineyard and, of course, Camp David, the official get away of U.S. presidents. At this rate, he could hit 262 days by the end of his eighth year, about average for modern presidents.

He certainly is not the king of vacation days. That honor falls to President George W. Bush, who racked up 1,020 vacation days in his eight years in office, including one five-week vacation, the most of any president in 36 years.”

Bush 1,020 – Obama 262, yet Obama should “work harder”.

    Double standard?

  5. Sarah – you asked a question with and exclamation point. “What re-election is he running for!”

He’s raising money for the D triple C, as stated in the actual article. Both sides do it.

Are you appalled? Are you equally appalled that members of congress spend 2-4 hours each and every day raising money? apalled they spend 10-20 hours a week to try to keep their job, instead of doing their jobs?

If so, support public financing of elections. Or get get the best politicians that someone else’s money bought and paid for. In this case, local billionaires.

  6. I am pleased to see the President of the United States coming to visit us. He needs to get out of Washington and the “bubble” that surrounds people there. We should celebrate the fact that we get a chance to see one of the most important people in the world, not grouse about traffic jams.
