Solar power for Woodside’s Town Hall could take a step forward at the Tuesday, Dec. 9, meeting.

The Town Council, which meets at 7:30 p.m. in Independence Hall, will consider and likely vote on a resolution that would authorize Town Engineer Paul Nagengast to develop plans and specifications for a roof-mounted solar array.

Also on the agenda: consideration of a process to review and update the town’s general plan, and choosing a new mayor for 2009.

The solar proposal allocates $80,000 for the solar panels, $20,000 to prepare plans and a bid package, and $20,000 to repair part of the Town Hall roof. The price includes a $27,300 state discount, the only discount available.

The 20,600 kilowatt system would handle about 20 percent of Town Hall’s annual needs.

When staff first looked at the idea of solar power, the working assumption had the system covering 100 percent of Town Hall’s needs, Assistant Town Manager Kevin Bryant told The Almanac. Such an installation would have involved ground-mounted arrays, or multiple roofs at Town Hall, or the roof of the town library, the report said.
