Valerie Mattei is the new principal at St. Raymond School in Menlo Park, but hers is not a new face at the school.
A longtime first-grade teacher, Mattei has also served as master teacher to a number of her colleagues, as a member of the leadership team for the school’s 2012 accreditation, and as faculty moderator of the Student Council and Campus Life.
Daniel Syverstad, St. Raymond Church pastor, said Mattei “has impressive credentials both as a teacher and as a leader in our school community. She is extremely zealous about building stronger bridges between the school and the larger parish community. We are very excited about her new role as principal of St. Raymond School.”
Mattei began teaching first grade at St. Raymond in 2007 after spending a year as a first-grade aide at Immaculate Heart of Mary in Belmont. She also served as a counselor in the foster care system in Sacramento.
Mattei received a master’s degree in education and school administration from Notre Dame de Namur University last spring.
