
Palo Alto police have arrested a Menlo Park resident who they said struck another man in the head with a golf club on Monday afternoon near a creek embankment, causing a significant head injury, police said.
The man, a Menlo Park resident, is being charged with attempted murder for the assault, which took place at about 3:35 p.m. near the 2000 block of East Bayshore Road. The victim was treated at a local hospital and is expected to survive, according to a news release.
The man with a golf club allegedly approached the other man while he and his girlfriend were near the San Francisquito Creek embankment. The two men began to argue, after which time the man struck the other man with the golf club and threatened to kill him, the release says. The woman reported that once her boyfriend fell to the ground, the man picked up a nearby kitchen knife and again threatened to kill the boyfriend. Police said the man fled on his bicycle after the woman intervened.
Palo Alto police identified the man with the golf club as a 48-year-old Menlo Park resident. The obtained an arrest warrant for attempted murder and felony and the man surrendered to the East Palo Alto Police Department on Wednesday morning, police said. Palo Alto detectives then took him into custody and booked him into the Santa Clara County Main Jail.
