The Bay Area will experience a kaleidoscope range of weather effects for the next several days, including a weekend warming trend that will give way to heavy rain and blustery winds next week.
While Saturday and Sunday will be dominated by sunny skies and temperatures a little above seasonal averages, the mornings will be chilly with lows in the low- to mid-40s for most areas and mid- to upper-30s for the North and East Bay interior areas.
Winds and beach conditions should be moderate for much of the Bay Area during the weekend as well, but things are expected to change starting around Tuesday afternoon, according to the National Weather Service.
“The Bay Area itself should be dry until Tuesday, as the main system that’s going to impact the region Tuesday through Thursday pushes into the North Bay and into the Central Coast about mid-week,” said meteorologist Roger Gass.
The weak atmospheric river is likely to douse the region in rain coupled with some potentially significant wind speeds.
“From Tuesday afternoon through Friday night we’re expecting anywhere from 1 to 2 inches of rain across much of the Bay Area and up to 5 inches in the upper terrain,” Gass said. “Most of the rain will occur on Wednesday during the day.”
During this time, the weather service says people should be on the lookout for localized flooding of creeks and streams, but major flood events from larger rivers aren’t expected.
“We are expecting winds to be a concern, but we’re a bit far out in time to hammer down the exact details, but we could see gusts of 60 mph-plus in higher terrain and 40 or so in lower terrain,” Gass said.
