Summer Prescott scored 12 of her game-high 18 points in the second half, leading Menlo-Atherton to a 37-24 victory over visiting Sacred Heart Prep in a non-league contest Tuesday.

Nise Sanft and Helena Warner combined for another 16 points for the Bears (6-2), who snapped a modest two-game losing streak. Fiona Steinmetz and Lauren Von Stralen also scored.

M-A meets Castro Valley (5-4) on Tuesday at 3:15 p.m. in the first round of the Newark Memorial Tournament.

Also, Gunn fell to Valley Christian 87-44. Vallory Kuelker scored 25 points, which included five 3-pointers. Mollie Kuelker added 9 points and Carmel Tong, Beverly Lamis, and Violet Tivol combined for 10 points.

The Titans (4-2) host Overfelt on Monday, Jan. 3 at 7 p.m.

In another non-league game, Palo Alto beat host Branham 67-51 to improve to 7-1 on the season. The Vikings travel to play Aptos at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Boys basketball

Connor Cadigan converted a three-point play in the final four seconds to lift Menlo-Atherton past Irvington 50-48 in the first round of the Mt. Eden Invitational in Hayward on Tuesday.

Cadigan scored eight of his 10 points in the fourth quarter.

Jon Goker hit a 3-pointer early in the final period to give the Bears the lead for good and spark a rally that gave M-A a seven-point lead.

Jalen Williams led M-A with 14 points. Malone Lohmann added nine points.

In other games, Mountain View beat Scotts Valley 61-32 and Los Altos topped Pioneer 54-31.

Girls soccer

Los Altos beat visiting Sequoia 2-1 on Tuesday. The Eagles (4-2) play at Valley Christian on Tuesday morning.

Sequoia (4-1) is off until hosting Capuchino on Tuesday, Jan. 4 at 4:30 p.m.
