This local protein bar maker aims to make healthy eating tasty

This week we’re highlighting a Menlo Park resident who’s crafting protein bars from his home and selling them at local markets like Sigona’s and The Willows Market.
Inspired by the lack of tasty collagen-rich foods readily available, Eric Shoemaker set out to make his own. He offers five flavors of bars, all with minimal ingredients, and his wife said she eats one for dessert every night.
And while we’re on the topic of sweet treats, San Jose-based Pour Decisions Craft Coffee & Beer is soon expanding to Mountain View. The cafe specializes in phin-dripped Vietnamese coffee topped with a variety of housemade creams. I talked with founder Vince Cao for the story.
Stay tasty,
Adrienne

All-you-can-eat buffet at Indian Sizzler

$25 for all-you-can-eat is a deal almost too good to be true in the Bay Area. But at Indian Sizzler in Santa Clara, there is no catch.
The first thing that stood out to me about this buffet was how clean and well-maintained it was. The food was refilled promptly, and it didn’t feel disorganized or chaotic.

The tandoori chicken was tender and succulent, podi idli well-seasoned, banana flower vada crispy and crunchy and butter chicken rich and flavorful. Complimentary garlic naan and dosa were brought to the table, and Sprite and piping hot chai were available for unlimited self-service at the bar. Six desserts sat on the buffet table, including caramel pudding, fruit custard and shahi tukra, a type of bread pudding.

If you’re looking to try an assortment of affordable Indian food, Indian Sizzler has a great selection of items for both vegetarians and meat eaters, and for $25, it’s a pretty unbeatable price.

Indian Sizzler, 4150 Great America Parkway, Santa Clara; 669-777-3077, Instagram: @indiansizzler_ca. Open Monday to Thursday from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and 5-9:30 p.m., Friday to Sunday from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and 5:30-9:30 p.m.
