A San Mateo man was stabbed shortly before 5 p.m. on the Redwood City Caltrain platform on Wednesday, Aug. 27, according to the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office.
The victim was seriously injured and was transported to a local hospital.
The Sheriff’s Office said it believes the stabbing was an isolated incident and presented no threat to the public. Caltrain closed the southbound platform at the Belmont, San Carlos and Redwood City stations. The stabbing caused significant delays across Caltrain’s network, with one train canceled. Caltrain warned passengers to expect 15- to 20-minute delays for all trains at 6 p.m.
The Sheriff’s Office has identified no suspect as of 8:40 p.m. The office requested that anyone with information contact Detective Nick Kostielney at nkostielney@smcgov.org or 650-418-0094.
The station is located adjacent to Sequoia Station shopping center, where the Redwood City Police Department is opening a substation to enhance security in the area.
