The Peninsula has a flurry of special traditions to warm up the start of winter and brighten up those darkest days before the solstice starts to bring a little daylight back.
There are tree and barn lightings, illuminated wonderlands from CuriOdyssey to Filoli, family favorite events like the BayLUG holiday LEGO show at the Museum of American Heritage and the longtime Ernie’s Trains display in Mountain View.
Of course, there’s plenty of music, from choral and classical performances to jazz, soul and swing, and multiple celebrations this year to mark the 60th anniversary of Vince Guaraldi’s iconic score for “A Charlie Brown Christmas.”
On stage, there are plays with new looks at beloved tales, from the classic children’s book “Madeline’s Christmas” to “A Christmas Carol.” There’s a suite of Nutcracker ballets to suit every age, from both modern spins and traditional takes to short versions for the wiggliest young audience members.
Those looking to find special gifts can drop by galleries and holiday markets to find creations by local artists and craftspeople.
Since the weather outside isn’t usually that frightful around these parts, there’s hiking with the Environmental Volunteers, while Caltrain offers a chance to “commute” between towns’ holiday celebrations on a festive train.
Read on for the many ways to ring in the holidays with good cheer on the Peninsula. Click one of the links below to go to a specific section:
