The best girls water polo teams in Northern California will converge on the Midpeninsula this weekend for the annual NorCal Invitational Championship Tournament.
Matches will be held Friday and Saturday at Sacred Heart Prep, Palo Alto and Menlo-Atherton highs.
The top 16 teams from the four CIF sections in Northern California — Central Coast, Sac-Joaquin, Central and North Coast — will be represented.
Davis is the defending champion while host Sacred Heart Prep (4-0) won the crown in 2005.
Locally, the host Gators will be joined by Palo Alto, Menlo and Menlo-Atherton and St. Francis. Palo Alto and Menlo-Atherton face each other in Friday’s opening round at Paly at 8 a.m. while SHP opens against Mitty at the same time in the Gators’ pool.
Semifinals are Saturday at Sacred Heart Prep at 10 and 11 a.m. The championship match, in the Gators’ pool, is set for 4 p.m.
Possible semifinals could find Sacred Heart Prep against either St. Francis (Sacramento) or Buchanan (Fresno) and Rio Americano or Johansen (Modesto) against St. Francis (Mt. View) or Miramonte.
