Update:Â A witness reported seeing a man flee the crash scene with a possible 5-year-old girl, according to the California Highway Patrol. Redwood City police located the man around 10:40 p.m., but no child was with him.Â
CHP officers arrested the man on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol. CHP said he was the registered owner of the Toyota 4Runner involved in the crash.Â
No children were found after multiple agencies searched the scene with a drone and K9 units, and California Highway Patrol said there is still no evidence that a child was in the car.
Original Story: Redwood City police said Monday morning that there is currently no evidence a child was involved in a rollover crash on northbound Highway 101 north of Woodside Road and no ongoing concern about a missing child.
Redwood City officers assisted the California Highway Patrol with an extensive overnight search after receiving a report that a young child may have been involved in the crash, according to a 7:43 a.m. police update. No child matching the reported description was found, police said.
Police issued conflicting alerts overnight, initially describing the child as a 4-year-old boy and later as a 4- to 5-year-old girl with blonde or brown hair and a pink jacket. The department did not explain the discrepancy.
Police initially said the crash occurred around 10:38 p.m. Sept. 20. CHP is handling the collision investigation.
