Joanna Smith Rakoff will discuss and sign her first novel, “A Fortunate Age,” at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, July 2, at Kepler’s bookstore in Menlo Park.

The book, which has been compared to Mary McCarthy’s “The Group,” details the lives of a group of Oberlin graduates whose ambitions and friendships threaten to unravel as they navigate life in Brooklyn during the late 1990s and into the next decade.

The event is free. Kepler’s is at 1010 El Camino Real. For more information, call 324-4321. Photo by Elena Seibert.
