Particle Kid brings “experimental future-folk” to the The Guild on March 28. Courtesy Randi Steinberger.

This week, catch some experimental future-folk with Particle Kid at The Guild, hear science-fiction master J. Michael Straczynski discuss his latest sci-fi thriller at Kepler’s Books and enjoy an artists’ reception — and have a chance to snag a free print — at Palo Alto’s Rinconada Library.

Particle Kid
Self-described “experimental future-folk” musician and visual artist J. Micah Nelson (son of Willie, brother of Lukas) records and performs under the name Particle Kid. His 2022 release “Time Capsule” features cameos by Margo Price and Sean Ono Lennon among others, including Nelson’s famous father. Particle Kid is performing at the Guild March 28 as a stop on his spring tour, with an opening set from The Stevenson Ranch Davidians, the Southern California psych-folk collective centered around singer-songwriter Dwayne Seagraves.
March 28, 8 p.m., The Guild Theatre, 949 El Camino Real, Menlo Park, $33-$78; guildtheatre.com.

Cubberley Artist Reception
The artists of Palo Alto’s Cubberley Artist Studio Program (CASP) have collaborated with fellow Cubberley artist and printmaker Patrick Fenton to create risograph prints that represent their work. Free prints will be available to the first 20 visitors to a March 27 artist reception, at which refreshments will also be served, in celebration of the CASP exhibition at the Rinconada Library. CASP is a city-run program that provides rent-subsidized studio space for artist residencies, in exchange for public programming. The current 22 artists work in a variety of media and their group show at the library will be on view through April 29.
Artist reception March 27, 4-6 p.m., Rinconada Library, 1213 Newell Road, Palo Alto, free; paloalto.bibliocommons.com

J. Michael Straczynski
Science-fiction master J. Michael Straczynski, best known for creating the show “Babylon 5,” in addition to his work in comics, comes to Kepler’s March 28 to present his new sci-fi thriller “The Glass Box,” which Kepler’s says “takes the reader on a mesmerizing journey inspired by pressing contemporary issues, including our right to protest and the threats designed to undermine that right.” The event will also celebrate the late Harlan Ellison’s collection “Dangerous Visions,” which is credited with kicking off the subgenre of new wave science fiction and which Straczynski is resurrecting with a new edition.
March 28, 7 p.m., Kepler’s Books, 1010 El Camino Real, Menlo Park, $10-$40; virtual admission via Zoom also available; eventbrite.com
