What challenges do women working in the arts face? And how far is there yet to go? The Palo Alto Art Center and dance company Danse Lumiere team up to host an event exploring these questions and many others with “Women in the Arts: A Conversation,” taking place April 28, 2-3:30 p.m., at the art center.

The speakers represent a variety of artistic disciplines: Palo Alto-based visual artist Martha Sakellariou, whose work in diverse media explores themes of female identity and domesticity; opera conductor and new works champion Mary Chun; and Danse Lumiere Artistic Director Kathryn Roszak, who is also the producer of the documentary “Women at the Top.” The film explores the “new movement of women’s leadership in dance,” according to the website.

The afternoon includes conversation and a premiere screening of a film featuring former San Francisco Ballet principal dancer Yuan Yuan Tan, who will also participate in the event via recording.

April 28, 2-3:30 p.m., at the Palo Alto Art Center, 1313 Newell Road, Palo Alto, eventbrite.com.
