Reporters and authors Michael Doyle and John Markoff discuss the history and legacy of Kepler’s Books founder Roy Kepler at an event hosted by Kepler’s Literary Foundation. Doyle’s book on Kepler, “Radical Chapters,” was first published in 2012 and is being reissued in paperback with a new introduction in time for the bookstore’s 70th birthday next year. Kepler’s has been known as a counterculture hub since its founding and Roy Kepler was a dedicated pacifist and antiwar activist during the World War II, Cold War and Vietnam War eras.

“Kepler played an integral role, creating a community and a space to exchange ideas for such notable figures as Jerry Garcia, Joan Baez, and Whole Earth Catalog cofounder Stewart Brand,” the event site states. Doyle is also the author of “Forestport Breaks: A Nineteenth-Century Conspiracy along the Black River Canal” and “The Ministers’ War: John W. Mears, the Oneida Community and the Crusade for Public Morality.” Markoff has published five books, including “What the Dormouse Said: How the Sixties Counterculture Shaped the Personal Computer Industry” and “Machines of Loving Grace: The Quest for Common Ground Between Humans and Robots.”
Nov. 14, 7 p.m., Kepler’s Books, 1010 El Camino Real #100, Menlo Park; Free, with optional book purchase available; keplers.org/upcoming-events-internal/michael-doyle.
