Michelle Lambert
Genre-blurring pop-rock artist and songwriter Michelle Lambert, who grew up in Mendocino County, started studying violin in early childhood (vocals, drums and piano soon followed) and went on to earn a full scholarship to Berklee College of Music. With themes of female empowerment in her songs, she’s also influenced by her studies of Celtic music. Lambert and her unique sound come to Redwood City as part of the Wednesday night “Music in the Park” series (10-piece soul band Sinister Dexter closes out this summer’s series the following week).

Aug. 13, 5:30-7:30 p.m., Stafford Park, corner of King Street and Hopkins Avenue, Redwood City; free; facebook.com/events/1220028053010811.

Carol Bower’s ‘Bird’s Eye View’
Impressionist artist Carol Bower, who works primarily in pastel and acrylic, enjoys interpreting the world around her, including its flora, fauna and landscapes.  Los Altos’ Gallery 9 is featuring Bower’s recent playful pastel work in an exhibition titled “Bird’s Eye View” through the end of the month. “Through the language of art I can express the joy I feel when creating a magical world of unlimited possibilities for combining colors, shapes, lines, and textures,” she states on Gallery 9’s website. And according to her own website, she is especially fond of landscapes painted in and around Northern California parks and beaches.

Through Aug. 31, Gallery 9, 143 Main St., Los Altos; Tuesday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Sunday noon-5; gallery9losaltos.art

‘Zareen’s Pakistani Kitchen’
Meet the talents behind a well-loved Peninsula chain of eateries when Zareen and Umair Khan come to the San Carlos Library to discuss their cookbook, “Zareen’s Pakistani Kitchen,” published earlier this year. The husband-and-wife team are the founders of Zareen’s, which serves up casual Pakistani and Indian dishes in Mountain View, Palo Alto and Redwood City. They also created the cookbook together, highlighting Pakistani dishes from traditional street food to comforting family favorites, but slightly adapted as needed to American home cooks, who may not be able to get all the ingredients some dishes require.  The book also explores common cooking methods for these meals.

Aug. 13, 6 p.m., at San Carlos Library, 610 Elm St., San Carlos; free; smcl.bibliocommons.com.
