There’s a little secret around Portola Valley, and no one has filled me in on it for 17 years. My clients and neighbors always have flats of really good lookin’ cherry tomatoes on the counter this time of year… real tomatoes… and I never knew where they came from…
Until now.

The pickup scene happens to be happening at Webb Ranch, the iconic farm located just off the 280/Alpine exit. Since 1922, the Webb family has been operating a working farm in the heart of Silicon Valley (bless them). U-pick berries in early summer and make sure to visit the super fun Pumpkin Patch starting September 27th (10 AM – 6 PM).
Don’t tell anyone but the pick-to-order secret tomato club only happens twice a week AND you must PREORDER by calling, emailing, or going online, make your voice heard and share the secret password while you are at it- localisbest!
This from Webb Ranch Farm Manager, Atlee Frechette
We have about 5 acres of tomatoes planted this year. Customer love our Ace tomatoes for canning/sauces, while others love our mixed cherry tomatoes and heirloom tomatoes for snacking and salads. It’s a great season, the tomatoes have been very happy…. this year we planted them right next to the bee boxes on the ranch.
You buy them in flats and combinations for $25 – $30. See the website.

Next Week’s Pickup Times
Thursday 9/12 (12:00-2:00pm) and Saturday 9/14 (11:00am-1:00pm). Don’t forget to order before at Atlee@webbranchinc.com or 650-854-6334.
Pick up at the farm stand: 2718 Alpine Road, Portola Valley, CA

And shhhh, what about the amazing Webb Ranch fresh corn?
Manager Frechette gives us an insiders tip: “Corn will not be ready until the end of September or early October. Check back then.” shhhh….

We did a Food Party! a number of years ago on why Michigan tomatoes are better than California tomatoes and got a lot of opinion and perspective. I wonder if that’s still true. I’m looking for the link.
